"Jake Langley is an exciting new voice on guitar with deep roots in the tradition."

--Pat Martino

Guitarist Jake Langley has covered a lot of ground in his relatively brief career. In 1999 he produced his debut jazz CD with B3 Organ legend Doug Riley titled Doug's Garage. This tribute to the classic organ trio’s of the 60’s is distributed nationally on Radioland/Verve. The performing trio features drummer Terry Clarke.

Jake's talents have led him to record and tour North America in 1999 with Fantasy recording artist and Greatful Dead alumnus, Merl Saunders. Jake has recorded and toured with Canadian recording artists One Step Beyond, Big Rude Jake, and Jibe. As leader of the Canadian Jazz/Pop group the Tone Poets Jake recorded two critically acclaimed CDs and toured Canada and the U.S. from 1994-1998 performing at innumerable Jazz Festival and clubs throughout North America. As a member of the Canadian Forces showband he has performed at the top of the world at the Alert Air Force Base 300 miles south of the North Pole as well as in Italy and the Persian Gulf. Jake is a busy freelance musician performing locally in Toronto with Brazilian jazz artists Pedras da Rua, swing band Slims Lucky Number, pop singer Steve Hagan, and many local jazz artists.

Jake has a degree in Jazz Studies from Concordia University, has attended the Banff Center for the Arts and has studied in New York with guitar legends Pat Martino and Jim Hall. As a composer Jake's music has been heard on radio stations throughout North America and he wrote, produced and recorded the score for the Canadian Documentary 99 Beal Street. Jake composes and produces music at his own Shadowy Lane Studios.

Jake's second CD, Non Fiction, features nine original compositions by Langley that dig deep into the roots of funk, acid jazz, R&B and Latin. He is joined by an all-star line up of Canadian jazz talent including Dave Restivo, George Koller, Perry White, Doug Riley and Davide Dorenzo. Of this recording, which Langley also produced, he says, “We wanted to explore some of our funky roots, and just have some fun. It really is a “blowing” session. The tunes were written to get your toes tapping and your head bouncing.”

Jake has recently been gaining international attention while touring as part of the world renowned Joey DeFrancesco Trio and has released his third CD, Diggin' In, featuring organist Joey DeFrancesco, and Terry Clarke on Alma/Universal.
